The year is coming to a close, but as an Administrative Professional, your busiest days are still ahead of you. Holiday party planning has suddenly filled your calendar, but you can’t let daily duties fall by the wayside! So, how does one go about handling such a workload? First, take a deep breath. Next, keep reading because—thanks to our years of experience in various office settings – AdminUniverse has some tips and tricks to help you handle the hectic Holiday season.

Organize: Organization (obviously) is the first step towards tackling the mounds of work you have. Although it doesn’t seem like you have the time, you will thank yourself later for carving out a piece of your schedule to throw out things that need to be put in the garbage. Once you’ve done this, your desk will seem less intimidating. Next, classify your work into groups—one group can be for projects that need to be done immediately, another stack can be for things that you’re still waiting for approval for, and so on.

Communicate: The holidays are for everyone! So, when you’re planning a holiday celebration, make sure EVERYONE knows when it is, where it is, and what they need to bring. If dates and times are clearly stated, you leave no room for confusion. Instead of having to worry about potential stragglers arriving or leaving late, you can focus on your other duties. By making sure others are in the know, you save yourself time and effort to put towards your other responsibilities.

Be Mindful of the diverse traditions and beliefs in your office. As the face of your workplace, you set the tone! Make sure that the festivities are themed around the holiday season, not just one holiday in particular. This will help to foster an open, cheerful environment. People are more productive when they’re happy—and that includes you! Set an example of tolerance and unity. That way, even though you’ll be busy with all you’ve been tasked to do, you’ll have an easier time managing because it will be in a positive environment.
